本片根据越南古典文学作品《翘传》（作者是19世纪初诗人阮攸）改编。
《翘传》，又称《断肠新声》是阮攸根据中国明末清初青心才人原著小说《金云翘传》改编。作品主要运用越南本民族文字喃字和越南纯碎的古典格律诗“六八体”诗（一种用上六言，下八言写成的诗体）完成一篇长达3254句的叙事诗，因此，作品具有很强的“民族性”，体现着“貉鸿子孙”的“国魂”与“国髓”。
《翘传》主要叙述出身书香门第的王翠翘一生坎坷的生活和遭遇。她出身名门，才貌出众并与书生金重私订终身。可在金重奔丧期间，她为救遭诬陷入狱的父亲而卖身，不料被骗，沦落青楼。阮攸却已越过当时浓重的社会偏见，去赞美王翠翘优雅的身材，尤其那美丽的心灵。长诗通过王翠翘这个人物所受尽的历经十五年的磨难，来突出十八世纪末和十九世纪初的社会真相，以及存在的诸多社会弊端，最明显的便是官僚腐败，等级森严等的社会问题。控诉了腐...Video
