本片是有关英国风貌及特征神秘而又有趣的电影三部曲的第三部，由富有创意的电影制作人帕特里克•凯勒创作。《被毁的罗宾逊》沿袭了该系列的前两部电影的风格，在英国一些人迹罕至的地方构建了一系列固定镜头摄影，同时加入了一个天马行空的解说，将这些镜头串在一起。
旁白叙述者不是鲁滨逊本人，而是他的遗孀。她将名义上的研究者的神秘命运拼凑在了一起，像鲁滨逊一样试图与非人类智慧力量交流，治愈这个世界的“最严重的疾病”。凯勒那才华横溢、包罗万象的脚本将哲学，艺术，历史，政治，经济，科技，农业，建筑，等等，编排在一起，甚至将超现实的，神秘而美丽的图像也编排了进去，并将对自然世界深深的爱融入其中，提醒我们人类与自然界正面临的严峻危险。
