　　影片根据意大利阿西斯镇上一个圣芳济修道院的壁画改编，它以11个片断表现了弗朗西斯传道的故事，这部在当时商业上惨败的电影在半个世纪后却成为经典，他在银幕上第一次提出了非暴力的精神，那个去感化野蛮人的教士是令人感动的，这些苦修士自我折磨达到净化灵魂的目的在浮华的世界就像童话。导演提出了一个很尖锐的问题，施舍的相对性。那个小修士将衣服给了穷人却自己没有穿这就凸现了问题的。特别是偷猪蹄，这些极端事件没有答案，只有展示，导演非常聪明因为这些确实没有答案，他的存在和消解都是个体内心的一念之择，这样的事件每天都在以各种方式考验人心。
